Caput-collum-diaphyseal Angle: How to perform

Last updated on August 1 2024

Description

The Caput-collum-diaphyseal (CCD) Angle is the angle between the femoral neck axis and the femoral shaft axis.
The normal femoral neck shaft angle in children changes with age: it is approximately 150° at birth and then gradually decreases to 130° by adulthood. It is important to keep the patient in the correct position when taking the x-ray: the leg must be kept in a neutral position and the patella must face forward because external rotation of the leg increases the projected femoral neck shaft angle and internal rotation decreases it.

This procedure is only available in the AP view.

Measurements

  • CCD: the angle between the femoral neck axis and the femoral shaft axis.
