Femoral Angles: How to perform

Last updated on July 6 2022

Description

Both Pelvic Femoral Angle and the Femoral Inclination are fundamental for the evaluation of posture equilibrium and spinal balance and used as positional pelvic parameters.

Measurements

fa_1

The measurement made by the procedure is displayed in the image:

  • Pelvic Femoral Angle (PFA): the angle between the line joining the hip axis and the center of the S1 vertebrae end plate (pelvic axis) and the line along the axis of the femur (femoral axis);
  • Femoral Inclination (FI): The angle between the line along the axis of the femur and the reference vertical line of the image.

Auxiliary references

To show this procedure, PeekMed® needs additional references:

  • Femoral Heads Midpoint (MP): the midpoint between the left and right femoral heads;
  • Center of the S1 end plate: the midpoint between the anterior and posterior edges of the superior end plate of S1;
  • Pelvic axis: the line between the femoral head midpoint and the center of the S1 end plate;
  • Femoral axis: line along the axis of the femur;
  • Vertical Line: the line that defines the vertical axis of the image that intersects the center of the femoral head.
