Description
A diaphyseal fracture is a bone break that occurs along the shaft of a long bone such as the femur, ulna or forearm. This procedure allows measuring the angle between the long axes of these two fractured long bones, a diaphyseal fracture.
The anatomical name for the shaft of a long bone is diaphysis, which is differentiated from the epiphyses, the ends of the bone.
Measurements
The measurement made by the procedure is displayed in the image:
- Diaphyseal Shaft Fracture Angle (DSFA): the angle between the long axes of the two fractured parts of the long bone.
