Central Edge Angle: How to perform

Description

The Central Edge Angle (CEA) is a measurement in the pelvis which is the angle formed by Perkin line and a line from the center of the femoral head to the lateral edge of the acetabulum. It can be used to assess for conditions such as developmental dysplasia of the hip.
This procedure is only available in the AP view.


Measurements

  • CEA: the angle between the Perkin line and Femoral head to the outer edge line.

Auxiliary references

  • Diameter of femoral head: a line between the center of femoral head and lateral femoral head. A circle is formed between these two points.
  • Hilgenreiner’s line: a horizontal line through the triradiate cartilage of the acetabulum;
  • Perkin line: is a line drawn perpendicular to Hilgenreiner line, and goes through the center of femoral head
  • Femoral head to the outer edge: a line drawn from the center of the femoral head to the acetabulum back wall
